A Very Good+ copy of the First Edition, First Printing, tightly bound in red boards with bright gilt lettering on spine and illustrated endpapers; 240 pages including index, a short bibliography, and appendix; frontispiece B&W photograph of a Mayan pottery pottery figuring group - a seated lady with flower earrings and sleeping boy with smaller earrings, 9th centure A.D. + 99 additional B&W photos + 16 colour plates; small bump to spine top, larger bump to bottom of spine and part of rear board; 5 mm closed crack from this bump. Illustrated dust jacket is price-clipped and has shallow edge wrinkling at ends of spine and folds and a 1 cm bubble on rear; jacket now protected in a clear, archival quality sleeve. C.A.
